Passenger Seat Back - Rattles When Unoccupied

^ NOISE - "RATTLE" - PASSENGER FRONT SEAT BACK RATTLES WHEN UNOCCUPIED

LIGHT TRUCK:
1990-93 AEROSTAR, BRONCO, F-150-350 SERIES, RANGER
1991-93 EXPLORER

ISSUE:
When the front passenger seat is unoccupied, the seat back may rattle due to a round pivot bushing that could allow for premature wear and looseness.

ACTION:
Replace the passenger front seat back frame assembly with a new frame that has a redesigned pivot bushing.





Prior to removal, verify that the seat back is causing the concern. Obtain the proper seat back frame assembly. Refer to Application Chart in this TSB.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Remove the complete front seat assembly, including the restraint "slide bar" (if so equipped) from the vehicle. Refer to Section 01-1OA or 01-10B of the appropriate Service Manual.

2. Remove inboard pivot cover (one push pin).

3. Remove outboard side shield (2 screws).

4. Remove tip-slide adjuster rod (if so equipped).

5. Remove front seat center arm rest and link (if so equipped).

6. Remove front seat back assembly from seat cushion assembly (two (2) seat back latch upper retaining bolts and one (1) seat back frame to seat cushion pivot bolt).

7. Remove seat trim cover.

8. Remove seat back recliner latch assembly.

9. Remove seat back pad and lumbar support adjuster (if so equipped).

10. Discard old seat back frame.

INSTALLATION

1. Install seat back latch to new frame.

2. Install seat back pad to new frame.

3. Install lumbar support adjuster (if so equipped).

4. Position trimmed seat back frame assembly to seat cushion assembly and install two (2) bolts required to retain seat back latch to new frame.

NOTE:
BE SURE TO TORQUE THE BOLTS TO THE PROPER SPECIFICATIONS. REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL.

5. Install seat back frame to seat cushion frame pivot bolt.

NOTE:
BE SURE TO TORQUE THE BOLTS TO THE PROPER SPECIFICATIONS. REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL.

6. Install the center arm rest and link (if so equipped) to the seat back assembly.

NOTE:
BE SURE TO TORQUE THE BOLTS TO THE PROPER SPECIFICATIONS. REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL.

7. Install the tip-slide adjuster rod.

8. Install the inboard pivot cover to seat.

9. Install the outboard side shield to seat.

10. Install complete seat assembly (including "slide bar") in vehicle.

NOTE
BE SURE TO TORQUE THE BOLTS TO THE PROPER SPECIFICATIONS. REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL.

11. Verify proper operation of all seat functions.

12. Verify concern has been corrected.
