Water Pump Removal and Installation

Fig. 22 Water Pump Installation:

1. Disconnect battery ground cables, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove fan shroud, then the fan and clutch assembly.

NOTE: To determine whether the fan nut threads are right or left handed, refer to "Determining Thread Direction of Fan Clutch Retaining Nut".

3. Remove all drive belts, then the water pump pulley.
4. Disconnect heater hose from water pump, then remove heater hose fitting from pump.
5. Remove alternator adjusting arm and adjusting arm bracket.
6. Remove A/C compressor and brackets and position aside.
7. Remove power steering pump and bracket and position aside.
8. Remove water pump attaching bolts, then the pump.
9. Reverse procedure to install. Apply RTV sealer to two top and two bottom bolts, Fig. 22. Apply suitable pipe sealant to heater hose fitting. Tighten water pump attaching bolts to specifications.
