TRANSMISSIONS - C-6, E40D, AOD - DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT - CABLE BINDS DUE TO ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE

LIGHT TRUCK:
1992-93 F-150-350 SERIES, F-47

ISSUE:
It may become difficult or impossible to shift the transmission lever from PARK when the vehicle is used in severe applications such as mining pits and off-road in cold weather. Mining sludge and off-road mud cake and freeze around the exposed end of the shift cable at the transmission lever. Thawing of the dirt caking restores most of the function.

ACTION:
Replace the factory installed shift cable with an improved cable which has a protective rubber boot around the exposed end. Replace the shift selector tube if damaged by use of excessive force. Refer to the Service Manual and the following procedure for service details.





1. If the steering column-mounted shift selector tube is damaged, replace it with a new shift tube (F3TZ-7212-A), Figure 1. Refer to Service Manual, Section 11-04A.

2. Replace the binding shift cable and adjust linkage per Service Manual, Section 07-06.
