Shift Point Tests (Road Test)
SHIFT POINT TESTSShift Speed Specifications:
NOTE: Refer to the Shift Speed Specifications Chart for shift speed specifications.
Road Test
1. Bring transmission up to normal operating temperature.
2. Operate vehicle with transmission selector in Overdrive range.
3. Apply minimum throttle pressure and observe upshift speed and speed at which the converter and clutch apply.
4. With vehicle in Overdrive, depress overdrive cancel switch. Transmission should downshift into third gear.
5. Depress accelerator pedal to floor Wide Open Throttle (WOT). Transmission should shift from third to second, or third to first depending on vehicle speed. Converter clutch should release and reapply.
6. With vehicle in Overdrive, above 50 mph and less than half throttle, move transmission selector from Overdrive to second gear, taking foot off accelerator pedal. Transmission should immediately downshift into second gear.
7. With vehicle remaining in second gear, move selector into first gear keeping foot off accelerator. Transmission should downshift into first gear at speed below 30-35 mph.
8. If transmission fails to upshift and/or downshift as outlined, refer to Troubleshooting. Diagnosis By Symptom Index
In-Shop Test

2. Check shift valves by placing selector lever in overdrive and applying throttle pressure and observing upshift speeds.
3. At shift points, the speedometer needle will make a momentary surge, a slight driveline bump may be felt, and engine speed will drop without releasing accelerator pedal.
