REAR ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (RABS) MODULE

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

RANGER

INSPECTION (Ranger Only)

1. Locate the RABS electronic control module under the instrument panel. The module is mounted to a bracket located in the center of the instrument panel. The location would be just above and to the right of the driver's lower right leg.

2. Check the part number on the module label. It is not necessary to remove the module from the vehicle. The label is on the cover of the module and is facing toward the driver side of the vehicle.

3. If the number on the label is F29F-2C018-AD, the module is OK. No further action is required. Release the vehicle.

If the part number is a number other than F29F-2C018-AD, replace the module.

REMOVAL (Ranger Only)

1. Disconnect the wiring harness from the anti-lock electronic control module by depressing the plastic tab on the connector and pulling the connector off.

2. Disconnect the wiring harness from the intermittent windshield wiper (IWW) module by depressing the plastic tab on the connector and pulling the connector off.

3. Remove the screw and nut that retain the anti-lock electronic control module and bracket assembly to the instrument panel. Remove the module and bracket assembly.

4. Remove the screws that retain the module to the instrument panel bracket. Remove the module. MUTILATE AND SCRAP THE REMOVED INCORRECT MODULE.

INSTALLATION (Ranger Only)

1. Place the correct anti-lock electronic control module in position on the instrument panel bracket. Install and tighten the module retaining screws.

2. Place the anti-lock electronic control module and bracket assembly in position in the instrument panel. Install and tighten the retaining nut and screw.

3. Connect the wiring harness to the electronic control and IWW modules.

4. Check the IWW and RABS systems for proper operation.

AEROSTAR

INSPECTION (Aerostar Only)

1. Locate the RABS electronic control module under the instrument panel. The module is mounted on the driver's side of the engine cover below the radio and equalizer (or storage bin).

2. Check the module part number. It is not necessary to remove the module from the vehicle. The module is mounted upside down with the label facing down.

3. If the number on the label is F29F-2C018-AD, the module is OK. No further action is required. Release the vehicle.

If the label number is a number other than F29F-2C018-AD, replace the module.

REMOVAL (Aerostar Only)

1. Disconnect the wiring harness from the anti-lock electronic control module connector by depressing the plastic tab on the connector and pulling the connector off.

2. Remove the two nuts that retain the anti-lock electronic control module and anti-shake brace to the instrument panel.

3. Remove the anti-lock electronic control module from the anti-shake brace. MUTILATE AND SCRAP THE REMOVED INCORRECT MODULE.

INSTALLATION (Aerostar Only)

1. Position the correct anti-lock electronic control module on the anti-shake brace.

2. Position the anti-lock electronic control module and anti-shake brace in the instrument panel. Install and tighten the two retaining nuts.

3. Connect the wiring harness to the anti-lock electronic control module.

4. Check the system for proper operation.

F-150-250-350

REMOVAL (F-Series Only)

1. Locate the RABS electronic control module located in the cab directly behind the glove box.

2. Disconnect the wiring harness from the anti-lock electronic control module by depressing the plastic tab on the connector and pulling the connector off.

3. Remove the two screws that retain the anti-lock electronic control module to the instrument panel. Remove the module.

INSPECTION (F-Series Only)

1. Check the module part number. If the number on the label is F3PF-2C018-CA (for single rear wheel) or F3PF-2C018-DA (for dual rear wheel), the module is OK. Reinstall the module and release the vehicle.

2. If the label number is other than F3PF-2C018-CA or F3PF-2C018-DA, replace the module. MUTILATE AND SCRAP THE REMOVED INCORRECT MODULE.

INSTALLATION (F-Series Only)

1. Place the anti-lock electronic control module in position behind the glove box and install the retaining screws. Tighten the screws to 18-27 in.lb. (2.1-2.9 N-m).

2. Connect the wiring harness to the anti-lock electronic control module.

3. Check the system for proper operation.

ECONOLINE

REMOVAL (Econoline Only)

1. Locate the RABS electronic control module located in the cab mounted to the instrument panel lower brace behind the passenger trim cover.

2. Remove the screws that hold the anti-lock electronic control module to the instrument panel lower brace. Pull the anti-lock electronic control module off the retainer clip assembly.

3. Disconnect the wiring harness from the anti-lock electronic control module by depressing the plastic tab on the connector and pulling the connector off.

INSPECTION (Econoline Only)

1. Check the module part number. If the number on the label is F3UF-2C018-AB (for single rear wheel) or F3UF-2C018-BB (for dual rear wheel), the module is OK. Reinstall the module and release the vehicle.

2. If the label number is other than F3UF-2C018-AB or F3UF-2C018-BB, replace the module. MUTILATE AND SCRAP THE REMOVED INCORRECT MODULE.

INSTALLATION (Econoline Only)

1. Connect the wiring harness to the anti-lock electronic control module.

2. Push the anti-lock electronic control module onto the instrument panel lower brace retainer clips and install the retaining screws. Tighten the screws to 15.1-18.5 in.lb. (1.7-2.1 N-m)

3. Check the system for proper operation.
