REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Raise vehicle on hoist.
3. Drain fuel tank.
4. Remove skid plate and fuel tank heat shields.
5. Loosen clamps and disconnect fuel filler hose at tank.
7. Position suitable jack under tank.
8. Remove nuts and lower the straps.
9. Carefully lower the tank enough to gain access to fuel connections.
10. Disconnect fuel tank sending unit connector.
11. Remove fuel tube push-connect fittings at fuel tank sending unit.
12. Disconnect vapor hose from fuel vapor valve.
13. Remove fuel tank.
INSTALLATION
1. Install jack under tank and raise it enough to start the tank neck into the filler hose.
2. Connect fuel vapor hose to fuel vapor valve.
3. Install the fuel tube push connect fittings at the sending unit.
4. Position and secure fuel filler hose on tank neck. Make sure that the inner hose is not twisted or kinked inside tank neck or filler pipe. Tighten clamps to 3-4 Nm (27-35 in lb).
5. Connect the fuel tank sending wire.
6. Position tank to vehicle and install support straps. Tighten rear strap bolt to 30-41 Nm (23-30 ft lb). Tighten front strap nut to 37-50 Nm (28-36 ft lb).
7. Position heat shield on tank retaining strap studs and tighten nuts to 17-23 Nm (13-16 ft lb.
8. Position fuel tank support strap in vehicle and secure to the frame with attaching bolts. Tighten to 17-23 Nm (13-16 ft lb).
9. Lower vehicle.
10. Connect battery ground cable.
11. Fill fuel tank and check for leaks.
