LIGHT TRUCK:
1993 BRONCO, ECONOLINE, F SUPER DUTY, F-150-350 SERIES
ISSUE:
Some vehicles may exhibit a harsh "double bump" and/or a delayed reverse engagement when the accelerator pedal is immediately depressed after selecting reverse. Acceptable operation is observed when waiting two (2) or more seconds before attempting to accelerate. This concern may be caused by the engagement control valve spring in the lower control body.
ACTION:
Perform diagnosis as specified to determine if a replacement engagement control spring (F3TZ-7G312-A) should be installed. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
NOTE:
THIS TSB ARTICLE APPLIES ONLY TO 1993 E40D-EQUIPPED VEHICLES WITH 5.0L, 5.8L, 7.3L DIESEL AND 7.5L ENGINES - VEHICLE BUILD DATES BETWEEN 9/14/92 AND JOB-1 1994.
1. Verify proper transmission function on upshifts and closed throttle engagements.
2. Perform on-board diagnostics as specified in the service manual or E40D Transmission Reference Manual, including oil level and line pressure checks; repair as required.
3. If the above symptom is still present and closed throttle engagements are less than two (2) seconds, replace the production engagement control valve spring in the lower control body with new service spring (F3TZ-7G312-A). Refer to Figure 1 for spring location and refer to the 1993 Service Manual, Section 07-01a, for removal and installation procedure.
NOTE:
THE NEW SERVICE SPRING IS NOT FOR USE IN TRANSMISSIONS WITH 4.9L ENGINES. ALSO, DO NOT USE THIS SPRING TO ADDRESS CLOSED THROTTLE CONCERNS. CLOSED THROTTLE ENGAGEMENT CONCERNS ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THE INSTALLATION OF THIS SPRING.
