TRANSMISSION - E4OD - NEW DESIGN TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR (TR) AND CONNECTOR INCLUDED WITH ALL E4OD REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSIONS

LIGHT TRUCK:
1989-94 ECONOLINE, F SUPER DUTY, F-150-350 SERIES

ISSUE:

Remanufactured E4OD Transmissions produced after 1/6/95 will include a new level Transmission Range Sensor and a vehicle wiring kit (Figure 1). The MLP/TR sensor will be installed on the transmission. The vehicle harness connector must be installed prior to installing the transmission.

ACTION:
Install the vehicle wiring prior to installing a remanufactured transmission. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Using a small dental pick or equivalent, remove the "red" pin separator from the old dual-tab MLP/TR sensor connector (Figure 3).

CAUTION:
THE TERMINAL AND WIRE ASSEMBLIES MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE OLD CONNECTOR AND INSERTED INTO THE NEW CONNECTOR ONE (1) WIRE AT A TIME.

2. Using a small, thin flat-bladed screwdriver or equivalent, gently insert down into the connector body and release the "locking finger" for the connector terminal. At the same time, grasp the wire and gently pull the terminal/wire assembly through the back of the connector (Figure 4).

CAUTION:
ENSURE PROPER GROMMET IS USED. THERE MUST NOT BE ANY OPEN TERMINAL/WIRE LOCATIONS LEFT IN THE GROMMET. REMEMBER TO REINSTALL THE GROMMET RETAINER WHEN CHANGING THE GROMMET.

3. If necessary, remove the grommet retainer and install the correct grommet, then reinstall the grommet retainer. Insert the terminal/wire assembly through the grommet retainer and grommet, then into the correct location (Figure 5) of the connector. The terminal/wire assembly can only be inserted into the connector in one (1) direction. Ensure each assembly is properly seated in the new connector. A "snap" should be felt and heard.

CAUTION:
ENSURE TERMINAL/WIRE ASSEMBLIES ARE INSERTED INTO THEIR CORRECT LOCATIONS AND THE PROPER GROMMET IS BEING USED. REFER TO THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL FOR PIN OUT, IF REQUIRED.

4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the remaining terminal/wire assemblies.

5. Install the "red" pin spacer plate from the kit by snapping it into the new connector.

6. Install the transmission, connect the MLP/TR sensor harness connector to the sensor. Reinstall the solenoid body connector and heat shield. Be sure to follow all the normal service procedures associated with transmission installation as outlined in the appropriate Service Manual, Section 07-01.

7. Clear all Diagnostic Codes, road test and rerun On-Board Diagnostics to verify repair. The kit included with the remanufactured transmission (Figure 2) includes the following:

^ 1 (one) Connector Assembly

^ 1 (one) "Red" Pin Separator

^ 1 (one) 6-Pin Grommet

^ 1 (one) 7-Pin Grommet

^ 1 (one) Instruction Sheet (I.S. # 6628)
