^ DOOR - REAR AND SIDE CARGO - DOOR CHECK ARM BINDING
^ NOISE - "SCRAPING" - FROM REAR AND SIDE CARGO DOOR CHECK ARM
LIGHT TRUCK: 1992-93 ECONOLINE
ISSUE:
Door check arms may bind and be noisy if they are not properly aligned and lubricated. This could result in high closing efforts and, in some cases, bending or breaking of the arm.
ACTION:
Refer to the following service procedure to align and lubricate the door check arms. If necessary, replace the door check arms.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Open the door to the full checked position.
2. Loosen check attaching bolt "A" on the door to allow up and down adjustment. Refer to Figure 1. Verify that the check is able to move up and down freely.
3. Place nut (34976-S100) over the pivot pin and arm at pillar B or D bracket, depending on the door. If the nut is a torque prevailing nut, make sure the crimped side is up or it may catch on the pin.
4. Place a vise grip over the nut and bracket and clamp it down to align the arm with the bracket. Refer to Figure 1. Jiggle the door and check assembly slightly to ensure that it self aligns.
5. Tighten bolt "A", then remove the vise grip and spacer nut.
6. With the door fully open, apply multipurpose grease spray (D7AZ-19584-AA) to the arm where it enters the door. Insert spray lube between the arm and opening in the door to lubricate the check rollers.
7. Swing the door back and forth to work in the lubricant.
8. If the door check does not operate smoothly, replace the check assembly (F3UZ-1527204-A OR F3UZ-1544100-A) and adjust as previously described. Refer to the 1993 Econoline Service Manual, Section 01-03, for removal and installation of the check assembly.
NOTE:
WHENEVER A DOOR IS ADJUSTED FOR ALIGNMENT, THE DOOR CHECK SHOULD ALSO BE RE-ADJUSTED AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.
