Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION1. Shift transmission into neutral position, then disconnect battery ground cable from battery.
2. Remove shifter boot retainer screws, then slide the boot up the shifter lever shaft.
3. Remove shifter lever boot retaining bolt locknut.
4. Remove shifter lever retaining bolt by placing locknut on opposite end of bolt and tightening to loosen bolt. Remove shift lever boot assembly.
5. Raise and support vehicle, then position safety under front and rear of vehicle.
6. Disconnect back-up lamp switch electrical connector located at the top lefthand side of transmission.
7. Place drain pan under transmission. Remove drain plug, then drain oil from transmission.
NOTE: Drain oil from transmission only if disassembly is required.
8. Position Rotunda Transmission Jack tool No. 077-00008, or equivalent, under transmission.
9. Remove driveshaft, then disconnect clutch slave cylinder hydraulic line.
10. Remove transmission rear insulator, then lower retainer. Remove crossmember.
11. Remove transmission to engine retaining bolts.
12. Move transmission to the rear until the input shaft clears the clutch assembly.
13. Lower transmission from vehicle.
14. Reverse procedure to install.
