Field Circuit Drain Test

1. Connect voltmeter negative lead to alternator rear housing.

Regulator F Terminal Location:





2. With ignition in the OFF position, connect voltmeter positive lead to regulator F terminal screw.
3. Meter should indicate battery voltage if system is operating normally.

Voltmeter Positive Lead To I Terminal Test:





4. If battery voltage is not indicated, disconnect regulator electrical connector and connect voltmeter positive lead to I terminal.
5. If voltage is indicated, service the I lead from ignition switch.
6. If voltage is not indicated, connect voltmeter positive lead to electrical connector S terminal.
7. If voltage is not indicated, replace regulator.
8. If voltage is indicated, disconnect electrical connector from alternator rectifier connector.
9. Connect voltmeter positive lead to regulator electrical connector S terminal.
10. If voltage is indicated, service the S lead to alternator electrical connector.
11. If voltage is not indicated, replace alternator rectifier assembly.
