Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION1. Shift transmission to Neutral position, then remove shift knob from transfer case shift lever.
2. Remove the shifter boot retainer screws, then slide the boot up the shift lever shaft.
3. Disconnect battery ground cable from battery.
4. Raise and support vehicle, then position safety stands at front and rear of vehicle.
5. Drain transmission oil from transmission, only if disassembly is required.
6. Remove rear driveshaft from transfer case, then front driveshaft.
7. Disconnect back-up lamp switch electrical connector.
8. Remove transfer case skid pad, if equipped.
9. Position Rotunda Transmission Jack tool No. 077-00008, or equivalent, under transfer case.
10. Remove six transfer case to transmission case retaining bolts, then lower transfer case from vehicle.
11. Position Rotunda Transmission Jack tool No. 077-00008, or equivalent, under transmission.
12. Remove transmission crossmember, then remove transmission to engine retaining bolts.
13. Move transmission to the rear of vehicle, until transmission input shaft clears clutch assembly.
14. Lower transmission from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
