Preliminary Testing
Transmission Testing Using Rotunda Transmission TesterNOTES:
The transmission tester allows a technician to operate the electrical portion of the transmission independently of the vehicle electronics.
Before any diagnostic testing is done on a vehicle, some preliminary checks must be performed as outlined below. Be sure to write down your findings, especially any fault codes found, for future reference.
- Check transmission fluid level and condition.
- Check for add-on items.
- Visually inspect wiring harness and connectors.
- Check for vehicle modifications.
- Check shift linkage for proper adjustment.
- Verify customer concern (upshift, downshift, coasting, engagement, noise/vibration) by performing the Drive Cycle Test.
- Vehicle must be at normal operating temperature.
- Perform vehicle self-test.
- Record all fault codes.
- Repair all non-transmission codes.
