SUBJECT:
Safety Recall 94S84 - Certain 1994 Model Year F-250/350 and Super Duty Trucks with the 7.3L D.I. Turbo Diesel Engines - Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Reprogramming or Replacement

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Certain 1994 Model Year F-250/350 and Super Duty trucks with 7.3L D.I: Turbo Diesel Engines built at Kentucky Truck Assembly, Norfolk and Kansas City Assembly Plants through 3-6-94.

REASONS FOR RECALL

When in speed control mode with heavy powertrain loading, as in steep grade ascents, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may not reduce the demand for engine torque after cresting the grade. This may result in increased vehicle speed during the initial descent of the grade. If vehicle speed increases during a steep grade descent, an accident could result.

To correct this condition, the PCM will be reprogrammed using the Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS - July, 1994 CD-ROM). Those dealers who do not have SBDS capabilities will replace the PCM with a new module.
