This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1994 F250, F350 and F350 Super Duty trucks with the 7.3L Direct Injection Turbo Diesel engines.
SAFETY DEFECT
When the engine of one of these vehicles is in the speed control mode and under heavy powertrain loading, as in the ascent of a steep grade, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may not immediately respond to sudden reduction in powertrain loading as in a quick transition from climbing to descent. This may result in increased vehicle speed for a period of a few seconds immediately following the reduction in engine loading, e.g., during the initial descent of the grade. This could potentially alarm or distract a driver, possibly creating a risk of accident. A driver can apply the brakes of the vehicle at any time to promptly reduce the speed of travel.
REPAIRS
At no charge to you, your dealer will reprogram the PCM, if appropriate, or replace the PCM with one of a new design. Dealers currently have instructions and parts ordering information.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
The time needed for this service is about one hour. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your vehicle for one full working day.
CALL YOUR DEALER
Call your dealer without delay. Ask for a service date and whether parts are in stock.
If your dealer does not have the parts in stock, they can be ordered before scheduling your service date. Parts would be expected to arrive within a week.
