NOTES:

- Ford DOES NOT provide procedures other than those described to retrieve or clear trouble codes.

- The Antilock brake system electronic control module is capable of performing on-board diagnostics using NGS only.

- The ECU monitors system operation and can store all defined service codes in its memory. It is important to understand that there are some concerns the ECU cannot recognize. Therefore, if a symptom exists and no diagnostic trouble codes are stored by the ECU, other diagnostic steps must be followed.

- The module cannot store a diagnostic trouble code if there is no power to the module. This concern is characterized by a Module Not Responding obtained during code retrieval when the ABS light is constantly on. This concern can be resolved by following the system pre-check procedures.

RETRIEVING CODES
The diagnostic trouble codes can be retrieved from the ECU in the following manner:
1. Connect the New Generation Star Tester (NGS) or equivalent and NGS ABS Adapter Cable 007-00580 to the black 4-pin connector located piggy-back on the EEC self-test connector, in the engine compartment.
2. Turn on the tester and follow the menus provided to perform ABS code retrieval.
3. Record all the codes. System Pass indicates that no codes are stored.
