Battery Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disable the vehicle electrical supply.

CAUTION: Failure to accurately follow the battery disconnect procedures will result in vehicle or component damage.

2. Remove the hold-down wedge and the primary battery. Disconnect the secondary battery.
3. Remove the four bolts retaining the battery tray and remove the battery tray.
4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.







5. Remove the three battery cable clip screws on the RH frame, near the secondary battery.
6. Remove the three battery cable plastic locators from the RH frame, near the body mount.
7. Pull the battery cable harness through the body-to-frame ground strap.
8. Remove the battery cable plastic tie, near the starter motor/solenoid.







9. Remove the starter motor/solenoid eyelet terminals.
1. Remove the ground nut and disengage the wire.
2. Remove the B+ terminal nut and disengage the wire.
3. Remove the enable nut above the M-terminal nut and disengage the wire.
10. Pull the harness through the RH frame, near the body mount.







11. Remove the battery cable harness bracket.
1. Remove the harness bracket nut from the lower stud on the front of the engine.
2. Remove the upper screw from the harness bracket, and pull the bracket from the stud.
12. Pull the battery cable through the engine crossmember.







13. Pull the transmission cooler bracket from the stud on the front of the engine.







14. Remove the stud retaining the primary battery ground on the engine.







15. Remove the screw retaining the primary ground wire to the RH frame.







16. Remove the starter motor relay eyelet terminals.
1. Remove the B+ terminal rubber cap.
2. Remove the B+ terminal nut and disengage the wire.
3. Remove the enable terminal nut and disengage the wire.







17. Remove the primary ground nut.
18. Pull the primary negative battery cable out of the vehicle from the engine compartment.
19. Pull the battery cable harness from the bottom of the vehicle until removed.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the battery cable harness from under the vehicle until the primary positive terminal and starter motor relay connections are positioned.
2. Install the primary negative battery cable from the engine compartment until the terminal is positioned.







3. Install the primary ground terminal and nut. Install the starter motor relay B+ and enable terminals and nuts.







4. Install the primary ground wire and screw to the RH frame.







5. Install the primary battery ground wire and stud to the engine.
6. Position the transmission cooler bracket on the stud.
7. Install the battery cable harness through the engine crossmember, and position the battery cable harness bracket.







8. Install the upper screw and lower nut to the front of the engine.







9. Install the starter motor/solenoid ground, B+ and enable terminals and nuts.
10. Install the battery cable plastic tie near the starter motor/solenoid.
11. Pull the battery cable harness through the body-to-frame ground strap.
12. Install the three battery cable plastic locators in the RH frame.







13. Install the three battery cable clip screws in the RH frame.
14. Install the air cleaner assembly.







15. Install the secondary battery cables and the secondary battery.







16. Install the primary battery tray and bolts.
17. Install the hold-down wedge and the primary battery.
18. Enable the vehicle electrical supply.

CAUTION: Failure to accurately follow the battery reconnect procedures will result in vehicle or component damage.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
