Engine: Description and Operation
The 6.8 liter engine consists of four basic modules that can be repaired individually. Remove only those components required to repair the module. The induction module consists of an upper and lower intake manifold. The lower intake manifold is composite material with a noise insulator. Fuel injectors are Sequential Multiport Fuel Injection (SFI). Each aluminum cylinder head module utilizes a single overhead camshaft to operate the two-valves-per-cylinder design. Individual ignition coils are used for each spark plug. The cylinder block module is a cast iron, 90-degree V-10 cylinder block. An engine oil cooler is attached to the oil filter adapter. The basic engine components consist of the following:
- two overhead camshafts
- engine dynamic balance shaft
- two valves per cylinder
- Sequential Multiport Fuel Injection (SFI) aluminum cylinder heads cast iron, 90-degree V- 10 cylinder block
- two-piece intake manifold system
- composite-material lower intake manifold with noise insulator
- large dual-bore throttle body
