Removal

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system.





3. Disconnect the 42-pin and the two 16-pin connectors and remove the nut and the harness mounting bracket.
4. Remove the intake manifold.
5. Remove the radiator air deflector, the radiator grille, the radiator grille opening panel and the upper and lower radiator supports.
6. Remove the radiator, fan shroud and engine cooling fan.
7. Remove the headlamps and side marker lamps.
8. Remove the A/C condenser core.
9. Remove the drive belt.





10. Disconnect the power steering reservoir hose at the power steering pump and let drain into a drain pan.





11. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose.





12. At the oil cooler water inlet, disconnect and set aside the lower radiator hose.





13. Disconnect the suction hose at the accumulator.





14. Disconnect the transmission harness and the left and right heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor connectors.
15. Raise and support the vehicle.





16. Remove the nuts.
17. Drain engine oil and remove the oil bypass filter.





18. Disconnect the oil cooler hoses and set aside.





19. Loosen the threaded shaft and remove the oil cooler from the oil filter adapter.
20. Remove the starter motor.





21. Remove the bolts and position the shift cable and bracket aside.





22. Remove and discard the four nuts retaining the torque converter to the flywheel.





23. Remove the engine support insulator nuts.
24. Lower the vehicle.





25. Install the Modular Lifting Bar.





26. Remove the nut retaining the transmission oil filler tube and remove the tube.
27. Support the transmission with a jack.
28. Remove the engine from the vehicle.





29. Remove the bolts, and remove the flywheel.





30. Use the Rear Crankshaft Slinger Remover and the Impact Slide Hammer to remove the crankshaft oil slinger.
31. Use the Rear Crankshaft Seal Remover and the Impact Slide Hammer to remove the crankshaft rear oil seal.





32. Remove the bolts and remove the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer plate.
33. Mount the engine on an engine stand.
34. Remove the Modular Lifting Bar.
