Fuel Pump on Engine

REMOVAL

WARNING: NO SMOKING OR OPEN FLAME OF ANY KIND MUST BE PRESENT WHEN WORKING NEAR FUEL OR FUEL VAPOR.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. On vehicles equipped with dual batteries, refer to battery.
2. Remove the turbocharger.
3. Remove the fuel filter water/water separator.

4. Disconnect the two fuel filter/water separator supply tubes from the cylinder heads and the banjo bolt from the fuel pump.

5. Remove the bolts and the fuel pump from the engine.
6. Remove the fuel pump tappet from the fuel pump tappet bore.

INSTALLATION

WARNING: CLEAN ALL FUEL RESIDUE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE.

NOTE: Rotate the crankshaft until the camshaft fuel pump lobe is on the base of the cam to ease installation.

1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
