Test Notes

Normal Operation

WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT A DIRECT RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT OF THE AIR BAG MODULE. A DIRECT RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT OF THE AIR BAG MODULE CAN CAUSE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, WHICH CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY. FOLLOW THE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE TO DETERMINE IF THE AIR BAG MODULE RESISTANCE IS LOWER THAN NORMAL.

The air bag Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) module monitors the resistance of the driver air bag ignitor by measuring the resistance between Pins C200-1 and C200-15. If the ECS detects low resistance, the ECS will store DTC B1887 in memory and flash LFC 34 (or higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.

Possible Causes
- Damaged shorting bar on the ECS, air bag sliding contact or driver air bag module.
- Shorted condition on the driver air bag sliding contact windings.
- Shorted condition in the wiring harness.
- Shorted condition in the driver air bag module.
