Disassembly and Assembly

DISASSEMBLY

NOTE: Inspect the Generator (GEN) before disassembling to avoid replacement of good components. It may not be necessary to perform all the disassembly steps for a particular test or repair procedure. Perform only those steps that apply.

1. Remove the four generator through-bolts and the generator splash shield.

2. Using two screwdrivers, one on each side, in the slots of the generator front housing, separate the generator front housing from the generator rear housing and bearing.

3. Secure the generator in a vise and remove the nut.

CAUTION: Do not secure the generator on the rotor tangs or damage to the rotor can occur.

4. Remove the generator pulley from the rotor shaft.

NOTE: The generator pulley is NOT pressed on. If the generator pulley does not come off easily, lightly tap the nose of the rotor shaft with a nylon hammer.

5. Remove the woodruff key from the rotor shaft.

ASSEMBLY
1. Install the woodruff key to the rotor shaft.

2. Install the generator pulley on the rotor shaft.

3. Secure the generator in a vise and install the nut.

CAUTION: Do not secure the generator on the rotor tangs or damage to the rotor can occur.

4. Install the generator front housing to the generator rear housing and bearing.

5. Using a heat gun or 200-watt soldering iron, heat the generator rear housing and bearing to 50-60°C (122-140°F) where the bearing is located, for a maximum of 3-4 minutes.

NOTE: The generator rear bearing is retained with a press fit.

6. Install the four generator through-bolts and the generator splash shield.
