Cylinder Head
REMOVAL
1. Remove the valve covers.
2. Remove the intake manifold.
3. Remove the timing chain/belt.
4. Remove the exhaust manifolds.
5. Slide hose clamp back and disconnect water heater supply tube.
6. Remove the studs.
7. Compress and slide the (A) hose clamp back and remove the (B) heater water hose.
8. Remove the RH bolts and the cylinder head.
^ Discard the head gasket and clean the engine block surface with a plastic scraper and solvent.
^ Use Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-MSB392-A.
CAUTION:
^ Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges that make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the head gasket.
^ The cylinder head bolts must be replaced with new bolts. They are tighten-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.
9. Remove the bolts and the cylinder head.
^ Discard the head gasket and clean the cylinder block surface with a plastic scraper and solvent.
^ Use Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M5B392-A.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the (A) head gasket over the (B) dowel pins.
^ The RH head gasket is shown; the LH head gasket is similar.
2. Rotate the crankshaft until the crankshaft keyway points toward the top of the engine (12 o'clock).
3. Install the (A) cylinder head on the (B) head gasket and loosely install the (C) bolts.
^ The RH cylinder head is shown; the LH cylinder head is similar.
4. Tighten the RH bolts in the sequence shown.
1 Tighten to 37 - 43 Nm.
2 Tighten an additional 85 - 95 degrees.
3 Tighten an additional 85 - 95 degrees.
NOTE: Make sure to tighten the bolts in sequence in three steps.
5. Tighten the LH bolts in the sequence shown.
1 Tighten to 37 - 43 Nm.
2 Tighten an additional 85 - 95 degrees.
3 Tighten an additional 85 - 95 degrees.
NOTE: Make sure to tighten the bolts in the following three steps.
6. Install the (B) heater water hose and slide the (A) hose clamp back into position.
7. Install the studs on the rear of the water heater tube.
8. Install the exhaust manifold.
9. Install the timing chain/belts.
10. Install the intake manifold.
11. Install the valve covers.
