Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
1. Discharge and recover the A/C system.
2. Remove the lower intake manifold.
3. Remove the bolt and separate the A/C manifold tube from the A/C compressor.
4. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
5. Remove the bolts and position the A/C compressor mounting bracket aside.
6. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
7. Disconnect the heater hose retaining clip and position the heater water hose aside.
8. Remove the bolts and the generator mounting bracket.
9. Remove the LH and RH exhaust manifold.
10. Remove the bolts and the RH rocker arm shaft.
CAUTION: If the rocker arm shaft is not loosened gradually, the shaft may become bent during removal.
11. Remove the RH push rods.
NOTE: Mark the position of the parts so they can be installed in their original position.
12. Remove the bolts and the LH rocker arm shaft.
CAUTION: If the rocker arm shaft is not loosened gradually, the shaft may become bent during removal.
13. Remove the LH push rods.
NOTE: Mark the position of the parts so they can he installed in their original position.
14. Remove the bolts and remove the cylinder head and head gasket.
NOTE: The LH cylinder head is shown, the RH cylinder head is similar.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the LH cylinder head and gasket and install the new bolts in three steps.
- Step 1: Tighten to 30-35 Nm (22-26 ft. lbs.)
- Step 2: Tighten to 70-75 Nm (52-56 ft. lbs.)
- Step 3: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.
NOTE:
- Install new seals and new gaskets. Use Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-MSB392-A.
- New bolts must be used.
- The head gaskets are not interchangeable and are marked for either right or left side use.
- The LH cylinder head is shown; the RH is similar.
2. Repeat Step 1 for the RH cylinder head.
3. Install the RH push rods in their original position.
4. Position the RH rocker arm shaft and install the bolts in two steps.
- Step 1: Tighten to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs..)
- Step 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.
5. Install the LH push rods in their original position.
6. Position the LH rocker arm shaft and install the bolts in two steps.
- Step 1: Tighten to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.)
- Step 2: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.
7. Install the LH and RH exhaust manifold.
8. Position the generator mounting bracket and install the bolts.
9. Connect the heater hose retaining clip.
10. Connect the electrical connectors.
11. Position the A/C compressor mounting bracket and install the bolts.
12. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
13. Position the A/C manifold tube to the A/C compressor and install the bolt.
14. Install the lower intake manifold.
15. Recharge the A/C system.
