Removal







1. Remove the hood.

NOTE: Mark the position of the hood for proper installation.

2. Drain the engine cooling system.
3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
4. Remove the fan shroud and fan blade.
5. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system R134a coolant.





6. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
- Disconnect the (IAT) sensor electrical connector.
- Loosen the two air cleaner outlet tube clamps and remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
- Disconnect the PCV hose from the air cleaner outlet tube.

7. Remove the A/C condenser core.
8. Remove the battery.





9. Remove the drive belt.
1 Turn the tensioner pulley clockwise.
2 Remove the drive belt.





10. Remove the bolts and position the power steering reservoir aside.





11. Remove the bolt.





12. Rotate the power steering pulley for access. Remove the three bolts retaining the power steering pump.





13. Remove the nut at the side of the A/C compressor.
14. Position the power steering pump and power steering reservoir aside.





15. Disconnect the air conditioning compressor electrical connector.





16. Remove the bolt at the back of the A/C compressor.





17. Remove the bolts and remove the bracket.





18. Disconnect the two generator electrical connectors.





19. Remove the nut on the generator stud.





20. Remove the bolts and remove the generator (GEN).





21. Disconnect the wide-open A/C cutoff (WAC) switch electrical connector.
22. Position the high side A/C line aside.
23. Disconnect the fuel lines.





24. Disconnect the emissions vapor management hose.





25. Remove the bolt on the lower steering column shaft.
26. Remove the lower steering column shaft from the steering rack and position aside.





27. Disconnect the RH side A/C reservoir vacuum connections.





28. Disconnect the LH side vacuum connections for the vapor management valve.





29. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle linkage.





30. Remove the nut.





31. Remove the other nut.





32. Remove the accelerator cable bracket.
1 Remove the nut.
2 Remove the accelerator cable bracket.





33. Remove the accelerator and cruise control cables from the retaining clip.





34. Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) bulkhead connector and the body ground connector.





35. Disconnect the engine bulkhead connector.





36. Loosen and remove the two heater water hoses.
37. Remove the transmission fill tube.





38. Remove the nuts and the power steering cooler.
39. Raise and support the vehicle.





40. Disconnect the ground cable from the engine front cover.





41. Remove the ground strap from the stud bolt at the rear of the lower intake manifold.





42. Remove the battery to starter relay cable from the retainer on the engine front cover.





43. Disconnect the transmission cooler lines from the retainer by the RH engine mount.
44. Remove the starter motor.
45. Remove the transmission inspection cover.
46. Remove the torque converter nuts.
47. Remove the transmission to engine block bolts and shift cable from transmission.





48. Disconnect the LH heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.





49. Disconnect the RH heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.





50. Disconnect the transmission bulk head connector.
51. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum supply line at the LH rear upper intake connection.
52. Disconnect the low oil level sensor electrical connector.





53. Remove the oil filter.
54. Disconnect the lower radiator hose.
55. Remove the LH and RH exhaust manifolds.





56. Remove the two LH nuts.





57. Remove the two RH nuts.





58. Install the Engine Lift Brackets.
1 Install the two stud bolts.
2 Install a 7.5 mm spacer.
3 Install the Engine Lift Bracket.
4 Install the nut.

NOTE:
- The LH front Engine Lift Bracket and RH rear Engine Lift Bracket are installed using the same procedure.
- The lift brackets are installed on the exhaust studs for the number one and number eight cylinders.

59. Install the Engine Spreader Bar on the Engine Lift Brackets.





60. Install a suitable engine lifting sling to the Spreader Bar and position around crankshaft pulley to support the front of the engine.
61. Remove the engine and place it on a suitable engine stand.
