Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify that the concern is with the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system and not diagnosed in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual(1)
2. Inspect to determine if any of the following mechanical concerns apply:

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
^ Improperly installed fuel filler cap.
^ Visually inspect EVAP test port.
^ Loose or disconnected components.
^ Damaged EVAP canister or vent solenoid.

3. If the concern remains after the inspection, determine the symptom and proceed to the Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
