Removal


Special Tools:






1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system.
3. Remove the intake manifold.

Windsor Engine

4. Remove the water heater inlet tube.
5. Remove the radiator air deflector, the radiator grille, the radiator grille opening panel and the upper and lower radiator supports.
6. Remove the radiator, fan shroud and engine cooling fan.
7. Remove the headlamps and side marker lamps.
8. Remove the A/C condenser core.
9. Remove the drive belt.





10. NOTE: Windsor engine shown; Romeo engine similar.

Disconnect the connector(s) and remove the nut and harness mounting bracket.





11. Disconnect the power steering reservoir hose at the power steering pump, and allow to drain into a drain pan.





12. Disconnect the power steering pressure line at the power steering pump.





13. At the oil cooler water inlet, disconnect and set aside the radiator lower hose.





14. Disconnect the suction hose at the accumulator.





15. Disconnect the transmission wiring harness and the left and right Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen (HEGO) sensor connectors.
16. Raise and support the vehicle.





17. Remove the nuts.
18. Drain the engine oil, and remove the oil bypass filter.





19. Disconnect the oil cooler hoses, and set aside.





20. Loosen the threaded shaft and remove the oil cooler from the oil filter adapter.
21. Remove the starter motor.





22. Remove the four nuts retaining the torque converter to the flex plate.





23. Remove the bolts, and position the shifter cable bracket aside.





24. Remove the nuts.
25. Lower the vehicle.





26. Install the Modular Lifting Bar as shown.





27. Remove the nut retaining the transmission oil filler tube, and remove the tube.
28. Support the transmission with a jack.
29. Remove the engine from the vehicle.





30. Remove the bolts, and remove the flywheel.





31. Use the Rear Crankshaft Slinger Remover and the Slide Hammer to remove the crankshaft oil slinger.
32. Use the Rear Crankshaft Seal Remover and the Slide Hammer to remove the crankshaft rear oil seal.





33. Remove the bolts and the crankshaft rear oil seal and retainer.
34. Mount the engine on the engine stand.
35. Remove the Modular Lifting Bar.
