Removal1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
3. Release the tension of the parking brake cable.
4. Remove the parking brake cable retainer from the axle.
5. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake. Position the cables aside.
6. Disconnect the anti-lock brake sensor (RABS) connector. Position the RABS harness aside.
7. Disconnect the axle vent tube.
8. Disconnect the axle vent.
9. Remove the center brake tube and RABS harness bracket bolt.
10. Remove the brake tube retainer bolt.
11. Remove the anchor plate bolts. Position the rear brake calipers aside.
^ Use mechanics wire to position the rear brake calipers out of the way.
12. Position the brake tube, harness and cable out of the way.
13. Remove the driveshaft from the axle and position it aside.
14. Remove the shock absorber retaining bolts.
15. CAUTION: Support the front of the axle. Do not let the front of the axle swing down.
Support the axle.
16. Remove the axle U-bolt nuts and the axle U-bolts.
17. Raise the vehicle.
18. Remove the left and right side shock absorber lower nuts. Do not remove the retaining bolts at this time.
19. Remove the supports and lower the hoist completely.
20. Remove the shock absorber lower bolts. Disconnect the shock absorbers at the axle.
21. CAUTION: The tires must remain on the ground to support the axle.
Raise the hoist enough to access the axle U-bolt nuts through the wheel housing.
22. CAUTION: Prevent the front of the axle housing from dropping and the brake lines from twisting when loosening the axle U-bolts.
Support the front of the rear axle housing.
23. Remove the axle U-bolt nuts and the axle U-bolts.
Installation
1. NOTE: While watching for obstructions, lower the hoist until the spring positioning pins contact the axle housing pad. While adjusting the hoist as required, have an assistant align the spring positioning pins to the axle pads.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
