Flow of Diagnosis

The evaporative emissions system is controlled and monitored by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

1. Verify that the concern is with the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system and not diagnosed in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual 1.
2. Inspect to determine if any of the following mechanical concerns apply:

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
^ Improperly installed fuel filler cap.
^ Damaged evaporative emission test port.
^ Loose or disconnected components.
^ Damaged EVAP canister or vent solenoid.

3. If the concern remains after the inspection, determine the symptom and proceed to the Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
