Lower






Removal
1. Remove the wheel hub.





2. Relieve the torsion bar tension.
1. Position the torsion bar tool and the adapters.
2. Tighten the torsion bar tool until the torsion bar adjuster lifts off of the adjustment bolt.





3. CAUTION: The torsion bar adjustment bolt is coated with dry Loctite(R) and must be replaced if it is backed off or removed. Failure to do so can cause the adjustment bolt to loosen up during operation and a loss of vehicle alignment.

Remove the torsion bar adjustment bolt and nut.





4. Loosen the torsion bar adjustment tool until the tension is removed from the torsion bar.





5. If equipped with 4 wheel anti-lock brake system (4WABS); safely reposition the anti-lock sensor wire.
1. Remove the bolt.
2. Safely reposition the anti-lock sensor wire.





6. Remove the stabilizer bar link nut from the front suspension lower arm.





7. Remove the front shock absorber lower bolt and nut from the front suspension lower arm.





8. Remove the lower ball joint castellated nut.
1. Remove the lower ball joint cotter pin.
2. Remove the lower ball joint castellated nut.





9. Separate the front wheel knuckle from the front suspension lower arm.
^ Use the Pitman Arm Puller to separate the front wheel knuckle from the front suspension lower arm.

10. CAUTION: Suspend the front wheel driveshaft and joint with wire.

Remove the front wheel knuckle from the front suspension lower arm.





11. Remove the front suspension lower arm.
1. Remove the two nuts.
2. Remove the two bolts.
3. Remove the front suspension lower arm and torsion bar as an assembly.

12. Separate the front suspension lower arm from the torsion bar.

Installation





1. Install the front suspension lower arm.
1. Attach the front suspension lower arm to the torsion bar.
2. Install the front suspension lower arm and the torsion bar as an assembly.
3. Install the bolts and nuts.





2. Install the front stabilizer bar link to the front suspension lower arm.





3. Install the front shock absorber lower bolt and nut to the front suspension lower arm.





4. Install the front suspension arm lower ball joint castellated nut.
1. Position the front wheel knuckle.
2. Install the front suspension arm lower ball joint castellated nut.
3. Install a new cotter pin.





5. CAUTION: The torsion bar adjustment bolt is coated with dry Loctite(R) and must be replaced if it is backed off or removed. Failure to do so can cause the adjustment bolt to loosen up during operation and a loss of vehicle alignment.

Preload the torsion bar.
1. Tighten the torsion bar tool until the new adjustment bolt and nut can be installed.
2. Turn the adjustment bolt until preliminary adjustment marks are aligned.

6. Remove the torsion bar tool and adapters.
7. Install the wheel hub.





8. If equipped with 4WABS, install the front brake anti-lock sensor wire bracket bolt.
1. Position the anti-lock sensor wire.
2. Install the bolt.

9. Adjust the ride height.
