Main Shaft Bearing Preload

Bearing Preload
NOTE: The input bearing front shims and oil baffle must be removed prior to the preload measurement.
1. Position the transmission on a bench with the output flange facing up.
2. Attach a Dial Indicator/Magnetic Base in such a way that the stem of the dial indicator contacts the output shaft.
3. Zero the dial indicator.
4. Using a pry bar, pry up on the input shaft.
5. Record the dial indicator reading.
6. The input bearing front shim and oil baffle must have a combined thickness equal to the recorded reading plus 0.02 - 0.11 mm (0.00079 - 0.00434 inch).
7. After completing the bearing preload measurement, position the transmission with the input shaft pointing up.
8. Remove the case from the extension housing.
9. Remove the input shaft bearing outer race.
10. Install the shim, baffle and the input shaft bearing outer race.
