Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

NOTE: There are two models of the Premium DM radio (early and late). The early version has a RDS button and the late version replaces the RDS button with CLK. The late version has no DTC capability.

1. Verify the customer concern by operating the electronic audio system with the engine running and the vehicle in and out of motion.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
^ Radio chassis physically damaged, misaligned, any controls inoperative
^ Antenna and antenna cable or antenna physically damaged or misaligned
^ Radio speakers mounting/speaker cones physically damaged, misaligned
^ Radio ignition interference capacitor, radio frequency interference suppression bond and radio receiver hood bonding strap misaligned, cleanliness and metal-to-metal contact

Electrical
^ Blown fuse(s)
^ Damaged connectors
^ Ignition switch
^ Circuitry
^ Damaged radio chassis

3. If the fault is not visually evident, proceed to determine the fault by performing the Speaker Walk-Around Test and Premium DM Self-Diagnostics Mode tests (if equipped with Premium DM). Component Tests and General Diagnostics
