Special Tools:
Disassembly
1. Remove the input shaft bearing.
^ Position the input shaft in the bearing cone remover.
^ Position the input shaft and the bearing cone remover in a press.
^ Remove the input shaft bearing.
Assembly
CAUTION: To prevent damage, inspect the surface of the input shaft in the area of the bearing race. Make sure it is smooth and free of burrs.
1. Press method:
^ Use a bearing race, Axle Bearing/Seal Plate and press to install the bearing until it seats against its stop.
2. CAUTION: Do not heat the bearing cone for more that 15 minutes.
CAUTION: Do not drive against the bearing cone. Drive against the inner race only.
Heat method:
^ Use a heat gun or gear and bearing heater to heat the bearing to 160°C (320°F).
^ Seat the bearing against its stop.
3. Install the input shaft oil dam.
^ Position the input shaft in a press.
^ Use the Sensing Ring Replacer to install the input shaft oil dam.
