Aft-of-Axle Fuel Tank
Powertrain Lift With Tilting Plate:
SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S)
REMOVAL
1. If removing the fuel tank assembly for replacement of the fuel tank(s) or the fuel tank solenoid valve(s), perform the Pressure Relief- Fuel Tank Venting procedure. Fuel Tank Venting Pressure Relief
2. If removing the fuel tank assembly for replacement of the support straps or the spacers, turn in the manual lockdown valve jackscrews on the fuel tank solenoid valves.
3. Perform the Pressure Relief- Fuel Line Venting procedure. Service and Repair
4. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
5. Raise and support the vehicle.
6. Remove the front stone shield retaining bolts.
7. Remove the stone shield.
1. Remove the rear stone shield retaining bolts.
2. Remove the stone shield.
8. Remove the tank support strap.
1. Remove the tank support strap retaining bolts.
2. Remove the tank support strap.
9. Disconnect the fuel tank assembly solenoid valves.
1. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel tank solenoid valves.
2. Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line from the forward fuel tank solenoid valve.
10. Install the Powertrain Lift with Tilting Plate and NGV fuel cell handler rubber pad.
1. Position the Power Lift with Tilting Plate and NGV fuel cell handler rubber pad.
2. Secure the fuel tank assembly with a nylon tie-down strap.
11. Remove the front fuel tank assembly retaining nuts.
12. Remove the rear fuel tank assembly retaining bolts.
13. Carefully lower and remove the aft-axle fuel tank assembly from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
NOTE:
^ Replace the fuel line O-ring seal.
^ Lubricate the fuel line O-ring seal with 5W30 engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G or equivalent prior to installation, to help seal and ease the installation.
^ When tightening the fuel line, a torque wrench adapter must be used with the torque wrench. The use of a torque wrench adapter will alter the effective torque of the torque wrench being used. To correct the effective torque, a torque multiplication conversion must be used. Torque Multiplication Conversion
