Oil Pan: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the engine cover.
3. Remove the vapor management valve.
4. Remove the engine Air Cleaner (ACL) and the air cleaner outlet tube.
5. Partially drain the radiator and disconnect the upper radiator hose at the radiator.
6. Remove two screws at the top of the fan shroud and position the fan shroud toward the engine.
7. Remove the throttle body.





8. Remove the nut retaining the transmission filler tube at the rear of the RH cylinder head and position the tube aside.
9. Raise and support the vehicle.
10. Drain the engine oil, and remove the oil filter.





11. Remove the nuts retaining the front engine support insulator to the front engine support bracket.
RH is shown; LH is similar.





12. Remove the flywheel inspection plate.





13. Position the two screw jacks under the rear left and right sides of the oil pan rails.

14. CAUTION: Do not exceed 10 1/4 inches of elevation or the throttle body will contact the vehicle body and damage to the throttle body may occur.





Raise the engine 10 1/4 inches from the crankshaft pulley to the lower edge of No. 1 crossmember.





15. Position the wood blocks between the engine supports and the engine support lower bracket.





16. Lower the engine onto wood blocks.





17. Remove the bolts and partially lower the oil pan.

18. Note: The oil pan is removed for clarity.





Remove the bolts retaining the oil pump screen cover and tube and let the bolts drop into the oil pan.
19. Remove the oil pan at the rear of the engine.
20. Clean the mating surfaces and clean the oil pan thoroughly.
21. Inspect the oil pan gasket.

Installation





1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.





2. Tighten the bolts in three stages, in the sequence shown.
^ Stage 1: Tighten to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 3: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.





3. Install the nuts retaining the front engine support insulators to the front engine support brackets. RH is shown; LH is similar.





4. Install the flywheel inspection plate.
