Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

CAUTION: To prevent refrigerant system contamination, if you are installing a new A/C compressor because it has failed internally, you must carry out the following procedures:
^ If Rotunda A/C Flusher 014-00991 or equivalent is available, carry out the Flushing general procedure.
^ If Rotunda A/C Flusher 014-00991 or equivalent is not available, carry out the Refrigerant System Filtering after A/C Component Replacement general procedure.
^ Installation of a new suction accumulator/drier is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of system contamination from failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator/drier.
^ Install a new A/C evaporator core orifice. For additional information, refer to Expansion Tube, A/C.

1. Perform the Refrigerant Discharging and Recovery Procedure.
2. Remove the drive belt. For additional information, refer to Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.







4. Disconnect the A/C clutch electrical connector.







5. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.







6. Loosen the bolts.







7. Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube.
1 Slide the A/C compressor forward.
2 Loosen the bolt.
3 Remove the A/C manifold and tube.

WARNING: SUPPORT THE A/C COMPRESSOR WHILE REMOVING THE A/C MANIFOLD AND TUBE TO PREVENT INJURY OR A/C COMPRESSOR DAMAGE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS, MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.


8. Remove the A/C compressor.

INSTALLATION
1. Service the new A/C compressor with the proper amount of Motorcraft YN-12c refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
^ Lubricate the new A/C manifold O-rings with Motorcraft YN-12c refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
^ Apply pipe sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A to the threads of the A/C manifold retaining bolt.

NOTE: When installing the A/C compressor, leave the bolts loose until the A/C manifold bolt is tightened.

2. Service the new A/C compressor with the correct amount of PAG compressor oil, YN-12c, F7AZ-19589-DA, or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B. Refrigerant Oil Addition
3. Position the A/C compressor.

WARNING: SUPPORT THE A/C COMPRESSOR WHILE REMOVING THE A/C MANIFOLD AND TUBE TO PREVENT INJURY OR A/C COMPRESSOR DAMAGE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS, MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.







4. Install the A/C manifold and tube.
1 Lubricate the new A/C manifold O-ring seals with PAG compressor oil, YN-12c, F7AZ-19589-DA, or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B and install the O-ring seals on the A/C compressor.
2 Install the A/C manifold and tube.
3 Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G350-A2 to the threads of the A/C manifold retaining bolt and install the bolt.
4 Slide the A/C compressor to the rear.







5. Install the bolts.







6. Connect the crankshaft position sensor connector.







7. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the drive belt. For additional information, refer to Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories.
10. Evacuate and charge the A/C system.
