Special Tools:






Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.





2. On motorhome chassis, remove the clamp and oil filler hose from the valve cover.
3. Drain the engine cooling system.
4. On bi-fuel vehicles, remove the compuvalve and vaporizer.





5. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube from the valve cover.





6. Disconnect the RH fuel injector electrical connections and the RH ignition coil electrical connections.
7. Remove the generator.





8. Install the special tool.
9. Raise and support the vehicle.





10. Remove the RH engine mount nuts.
11. Lower the vehicle.





12. Disconnect the front heater hose.





13. Disconnect the vapor management valve vacuum hose and vacuum canister vacuum harness and lift the fuel charging wiring off the valve cover studs.
14. Using the special tool, raise the engine.

15. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.

Note: The bolts are part of the valve cover and should not be removed.





Remove the RH valve cover.
^ Fully loosen the bolts and remove the valve cover.
^ Inspect the valve cover gasket and clean the mating surface of the cylinder head.

Installation

1. Note: If not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M513392-A. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 4 minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.





Apply a bead of silicone in two places where the engine front cover meets the cylinder head.
^ Use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4.





2. Position the valve cover and the valve cover gasket on the cylinder head and loosely install the bolts.





3. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
4. Lower the engine.
5. Position the fuel charging wiring onto the valve cover studs and connect the vapor management valve vacuum hose and the vacuum canister vacuum harness.





6. Connect the front heater hose.
7. Raise and support the vehicle.





8. Install the RH engine mount nuts.
9. Lower the vehicle.





10. Remove the special tool.
11. Install the generator.





12. Connect the RH ignition coil electrical connectors and the RH fuel injector electrical connectors.





13. Connect the crankcase ventilation tube to the valve cover.
14. On bi-fuel vehicles, install the compuvalve and vaporizer.





15. On motorhome chassis, install the clamp and oil filler hose on the valve cover.
16. Connect the battery ground cable.
17. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
