Throttle Body Spacer: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

WARNING:
^ DO NOT SMOKE OR CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE WHEN WORKING ON OR NEAR ANY FUEL-RELATED COMPONENTS. HIGHLY FLAMMABLE MIXTURES ARE ALWAYS PRESENT AND CAN BE IGNITED, RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
^ FUEL IN THE FUEL SYSTEM REMAINS UNDER HIGH PRESSURE EVEN WHEN THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING.
^ BEFORE WORKING ON OR DISCONNECTING ANY OF THE FUEL LINES OR FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS, THE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE MUST BE RELIEVED.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
3. Remove the engine air cleaner, the air cleaner outlet tube and the accelerator splash shield.
4. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System.







5. Disconnect the accelerator cable and the speed control actuator cable.
1 Disconnect both cables at the throttle bell crank.
2 Disconnect both cables from the accelerator mounting bracket.







6. Remove the accelerator mounting bracket.
1 Remove the spring.
2 Remove the bolts.
3 Remove the accelerator mounting bracket.







7. Disconnect the PCV system.
^ Disconnect the coolant hoses.
^ Disconnect the PCV hose.







8. Disconnect the following at the intake manifold:
^ power brake booster vacuum supply hose
^ main vacuum supply line







9. Disconnect the hose and electrical connector from the idle air control valve.







10. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.







11. If equipped, remove the two bolts retaining the EGR transducer bracket to the intake manifold.
Position the bracket and the EGR transducer out of the way.







12. If equipped, disconnect the EGR valve.
1 Loosen the EGR tube nut.
2 Disconnect EGR tube.
3 Disconnect the vacuum line from the EGR valve.







13. Remove the four bolts from the throttle body spacer.







14. Remove the throttle body, throttle body spacer, EGR valve and idle air control valve as an assembly.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.






















2. Install the four throttle body spacer bolts.
1 Tighten to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb-in).
2 Tighten the bolts an additional 85-95 degrees.
