Identifying Refrigerants

SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL(S)

1. Follow the instructions included with the Refrigerant Analyzer to obtain the sample for testing.

NOTE: Prior to recovering or charging the refrigerant system, you must use an A/C refrigerant analyzer to identify gas samples taken directly from the refrigeration system or storage containers.

2. The analyzer will display one of the following:
^ R-12 or R-134a if the purity is better than 98% by weight.
^ FAIL if neither of the two gases have been identified or if they are not at least 98% pure.
^ HC and a horn will sound if the gas detected contains a hydrocarbon (flammable material).

3. Recover the contaminated refrigerant using suitable recovery only equipment designed for capturing and storing contaminated refrigerant. Handling of Contaminated Refrigerants

CAUTION: If contaminated refrigerant is detected, DO NOT recover the refrigerant into your recovery/recycling equipment.
