Flow of Diagnosis

1. Verify the customer concern by checking the air bag indicator in the instrument cluster. Refer to Prove Out the System. Prove Out Procedure
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
^ Damaged air bag Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) module bracket

Electrical
^ Blown fuse(s)
^ Damaged wiring harness
^ Loose or corroded connectors
^ Circuitry open/shorted
^ Damaged shorting bars

3. If the concern is not visually evident, use the scan tool to retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and perform the on-demand self test.
4. If the on-demand self test is passed and no DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the symptom chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

5. If DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the Air Bag Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Priority Table. Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
