Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Attachment III - Technical Information

OVERVIEW
This program involves replacing the headlamp switch knob if it is either loose or missing from the affected vehicles. If the knob is not loose or missing, replacement is not necessary and should not be performed.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. NOTE: There are two (2) styles of headlamp switches depending on if the vehicle is equipped with or without fog lamps. Both switch styles use the same knob.

For non-fog lamp equipped vehicles position the headlamp switch in the ON position. For fog lamp equipped vehicles position the headlamp switch in the headlamp ON position and pull the knob out into the fog lamp ON position.

2. CAUTION: To avoid possible damage to the headlamp switch bezel, use a piece of cardboard, or similar material, placed between the bezel and the tool.

Insert a pocket screwdriver, or similar tool, in through the opening on the bottom of the headlamp switch knob and depress the release tab inside, then remove the knob. See Figures 1 and 2.

3. Position the new knob on the switch and push in until a click is heard and/or felt. Lightly pull on the knob to make sure it is securely locked in position.
