HEADLAMP KNOB SWITCH - SERVICE TIP
FORD:
2000 Excursion
ISSUE
Some 2000 Excursion vehicles may exhibit a headlamp knob which may become loose.
ACTION
A new knob is now available for service. Replace the knob on the headlamp switch using the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Verify the customer concern.
2. There are two (2) styles of headlamp switches depending on if the vehicles are equipped with or without fog lamps. For fog lamp equipped vehicles, where the knob can be rotated to the headlamp On position and pulled outward, proceed to Step 3. For vehicles without fog lamps, proceed to Step 5.
3. For fog lamp equipped vehicles, position the headlamp switch in the headlamp On position and pull the knob out into the fog lamp On position.
CAUTION
TO AVOID POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO THE HEADLAMP SWITCH BEZEL, USE A PIECE OF CARDBOARD, OR SIMILAR MATERIAL, PLACED BETWEEN THE BEZEL AND TOOL.
4. Insert a pocket screwdriver, or similar tool, in through the opening on the bottom of the headlamp switch knob and depress the release tab inside, then remove the knob. (Figures 1 and 2)
5. For vehicles without fog lamps, position the headlamp knob in the On position.
CAUTION
TO AVOID POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO THE HEADLAMP SWITCH BEZEL, USE A PIECE OF CARDBOARD, OR SIMILAR MATERIAL, PLACED BETWEEN THE BEZEL AND TOOL.
6. Insert a pocket screwdriver, or similar tool, directly beneath the knob handle, between the knob face and the assembly fascia. Gently and steadily leverage the screwdriver so that the stem tab will unlatch from the knob retaining window.
7. Position the replacement knob on the switch assembly and push in until a click is heard and/or felt.
8. Lightly pull the knob to make sure it is securely locked in position.
