Disassembly and Assembly of Sub-Assemblies

Disassembly





1. Note: The piston pin bore of a connecting rod and the diameter of the pin must be within specification.

Use the special tool to press the piston pin out of the connecting rod and piston assembly.





2. Remove the connecting rod from the piston.
3. Clean and inspect the connecting rod and the piston.

Assembly

Note: For RH piston assemblies, the identification notch on the piston and the connecting rod must face in the same direction. For LH assemblies, they must face in the opposite direction.

If using replacement connecting rods, use the large chamfered side of the connecting rod bearing bore for direction identification.





1. Lubricate the piston pin and piston pin bore, and position the piston pin in the piston pin bore.
- Use Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.





2. Use the special tool to press the piston pin into the piston and connecting rod.
