Removal and Installation

Compressor - 7.3L Diesel

REMOVAL

CAUTION: When replacing an A/C compressor which has failed internally, perform the following procedures to prevent contamination of the refrigerant system.
^ If an A/C flusher is available, perform the Flushing procedure.
^ If an A/C flusher is not available, perform the Refrigerant System Filtering after A/C Compressor Replacement procedure.
^ Replace the suction accumulator/drier; refer to Accumulator, Air Conditioning.
^ Replace the A/C evaporator core orifice; refer to Expansion Tube, A/C.

1. Perform the Refrigerant Discharging and Recovery Procedure.
2. Remove the drive belt from the A/C pulley; refer to Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories.







3. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the A/C clutch field coil.







4. Loosen the bolt and remove the A/C manifold and tube assembly from the A/C compressor.







5. Remove the bolts and remove the A/C compressor.

INSTALLATION












1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
^ Service the replacement A/C compressor with the proper amount of PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil (R-134a Systems) F7AZ-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B. See: Refrigerant Oil Addition.
^ Lubricate the O-ring seal with PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil (R-134a Systems) F7AZ-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
