Cylinder Heads

Disassembly





1. Remove the rear engine lifting eye.





2. Remove the exhaust manifold and the exhaust manifold gasket.
- Discard the gasket.
- Remove the six bolts and two studs.





3. Remove the front engine lifting eye.





4. Remove the intake manifold and the intake manifold gasket.
- Discard the gasket.





5. Remove the oil pressure sensor.





6. Remove the rocker arms using the Valve Spring Compressor.





7. Remove the valve tappets.





8. Remove the valve spring retainer keys using the Valve Spring Compressor.





9. Remove the valve spring retainers.





10. Remove the valve springs.





11. Remove the valve stem seals. Discard the valve stem seal.





12. CAUTION: The valves are positional. Mark the valves that are being re-used for installation in their original position.

Remove the valves.





13. Remove the camshaft retainer.





14. Remove the camshaft.





15. Remove the camshaft seal.
- Discard the seal.





16. If required, use a Cam Bearing Service Set and remove the camshaft center bearings.

Assembly





1. If required, use a Cam Bearing Service Set and install the camshaft bearings.





2. Note: Coat the seal inner surfaces with clean engine oil.

Using a Front Camshaft Front Seal Replacer, install the new camshaft seal.





3. Note: Coat the camshaft bearings with clean engine oil.

Install the camshaft.





4. Install the camshaft retainer.





5. CAUTION: The valves must be installed in their original locations.

Install the valves.





6. Using a Valve Stem Seal Replacer and the protective cap, install the valve stem seals.





7. Install the valve springs.





8. Install the valve spring retainers.





9. Using a Valve Spring Compressor, install the valve spring retainer keys.





10. Install the valve tappets.





11. Install the rocker arms using the Valve Spring Compressor.





12. Install the oil pressure sensor.





13. Install the intake manifold.
- Position the intake manifold gasket.
- Position the intake manifold.
- Install the bolts.
- Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in two steps.
1 Tighten to 7 - 10 Nm (62 - 88 inch lbs.).
2 Tighten to 26 - 38 Nm (20 - 28 ft. lbs.).





14. Install the front engine lifting eye.





15. Install the exhaust manifold.
- Position the exhaust manifold gasket.
- Position the exhaust manifold.
- Install the bolts.
- Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in two steps.
1 Tighten to 20 - 30 Nm (15 - 16 ft. lbs.).
2 Tighten to 60 - 80 Nm (45 - 59 ft. lbs.).





16. Install the rear engine lifting eye.
