Disassembly and Assembly of Sub-Assemblies

Disassembly





1. Note: Use a suitable ring expander to remove piston rings to prevent damage.

Remove the piston rings.





2. Note: Take note of piston connecting rod assembly and mark the connecting rod and the piston to make sure of correct orientation during reassembly.

Use a suitable piston pin tool to press the piston pin out of the piston connecting rod assembly.





3. Remove the connecting rod from the piston.
4. Clean and inspect the connecting rod and the piston.

Assembly





1. Lubricate the piston pin and piston pin bore.
- Use Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.





2. Note: During assembly the small end of the connecting rod must be heated to 232 - 316°C (450 - 600°F).

Use a suitable piston pin tool to press the piston pin into the piston and the connecting rod.





3. Note: Lubricate the piston and the piston rings with Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.

Note: Use a suitable ring expander to install the piston rings. Make sure ring end gaps are equally spaced around the circumference of the piston for all piston rings.

Install the piston rings.
4. Check piston ring end gap and ring-to-groove side clearance.
