Removal and Installation
REMOVALCAUTION: To prevent refrigerant system contamination, if you are replacing an A/C compressor which has failed internally, you must perform the following procedures:
^ If A/C Flusher is available, perform the Flushing general procedure. Air Conditioning System Flushing
^ If A/C Flusher is not available, perform the Refrigerant System Filtering after A/C Compressor Replacement general procedure. Refrigerant System Filtering After A/C Component Replacement
^ Replace the A/C evaporator core orifice; refer to Expansion Tube, A/C.
NOTE: Replacement of the suction accumulator drier is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of system contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator/drier.
1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Reposition the air cleaner outlet tube.
1 Loosen the clamp.
2 Disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube.
3 Reposition the air cleaner outlet tube.
3. Remove the drive belt; refer to Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector.
5. Remove the clamp nut on the A/C manifold and tube.
6. Remove the manifold retaining bolt.
7. Remove the bolts and the A/C compressor
INSTALLATION
1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
^ Lubricate the replacement A/C compressor with the proper amount of Motorcraft YN-12c refrigerant oil, or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
^ Lubricate the O-ring seals with Motorcraft YN-12c refrigerant oil, or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
^ Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G340-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A to the threads of the A/C manifold retaining bolt.
