Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.

1. Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to Steering.







2. Remove the screws and position the parking brake release handle aside.







3. Disconnect the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch electrical connector.







4. If equipped, disconnect the Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) switch electrical connector.







5. Remove the RH and LH scuff plates.
1 Remove the eight screws.
2 Remove the RH and LH scuff plates.







6. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.
^ Remove the pin-type retainer on the LH cowl trim panel.







7. Remove the LH and RH windshield side garnish mouldings.







8. Remove the instrument panel side finish panel.







9. Disconnect the battery junction box from the bracket and position it aside.







10. Remove the bulkhead wiring harness from inside the engine compartment.
1 Loosen the bolts.
2 Disconnect the electrical connectors.







11. Remove the bulkhead connector insulator.







12. Unclip the bulkhead electrical connectors from the dash panel.
13. Remove the instrument panel valance panel.







14. Disconnect the Restraint Control Module (RCM) electrical connector.
1 Release the locking tab.
2 Disconnect the RCM electrical connector.

15. Remove the passenger side air bag module. Refer to Air Bag Systems.







16. Disconnect the blend door actuator electrical connector.







17. Disconnect the climate control vacuum harness connector.







18. Disconnect the radio antenna cable in-line connector.







19. Raise and secure the glove compartment.
^ Press the release tabs inward while raising the glove compartment.







20. Disconnect the electrical connectors and the ground wires on the RH cowl panel.







21. Remove the instrument panel defroster opening grille.







22. Remove the instrument panel cowl top bolts.







23. Remove the instrument panel brace bolt under the steering column.







24. Remove the RH instrument panel cowl side bolt.







25. Remove the LH instrument panel cowl side bolts.
26. Position the instrument panel away from the dash panel.







27. Disconnect the instrument panel to body harness.
1 Loosen the bolt.
2 Disconnect the harness.

28. Remove the instrument panel.
^ If necessary, transfer the components to the new instrument panel.

NOTE: Two technicians are required to perform this step.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.

1. Position the instrument panel.

NOTE: Two technicians are required to perform this step.







2. Connect the instrument panel to body harness.
1 Connect the harness.
2 Install the bolt.

3. Align and install the instrument panel







4. Install the LR instrument panel cowl side bolts.







5. Install the RH instrument panel cowl side bolt.







6. Install the instrument panel cowl top bolts.







7. Install the instrument panel defroster opening grille.







8. Install the instrument panel brace bolt.







9. Connect the electrical connectors and the ground wires on the RH cowl panel.







10. Lower the glove compartment.
^ Press the glove compartment release tabs inward while pulling downward on the glove compartment.







11. Connect the radio antenna cable in-line connector.







12. Connect the climate control vacuum harness connector.







13. Connect the blend door actuator electrical connector.
14. Install the passenger side air bag module. Refer to Air Bag Systems.







15. Connect the RCM electrical connector.
1 Install the RCM electrical connector.
2 Engage the locking clip.

16. Install the instrument panel valance panel.







17. Position the bulkhead electrical connector handle.







18. Connect the BPP switch electrical connector.







19. Connect the CPP switch electrical connector.







20. Install the bulkhead connector insulator.







21. Install the bulkhead wiring harness connectors.
1 Connect the electrical connectors.
2 Install the bolts.







22. Install the battery junction box onto the bracket.







23. Install the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels. Install the pin-type retainer on the LH cowl trim panel.







24. Install the LH and RH windshield side garnish mouldings.







25. Install the RH and LH scuff plates.
1 Position the scuff plates.
2 Install the eight screws.







26. Install the instrument panel side finish panel.







27. Install the parking brake release handle.
1 Position the handle.
2 Install the screws.
