General Information
The Electronic Ignition (EI) system consists of the following components:
^ Ignition coil
^ Spark plugs
^ Spark plug wires
^ Radio ignition interference capacitor
The ignition coil:
^ is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
^ each ignition coil fires two spark plugs.
The spark plug:
^ ignites the fuel and air mixture.
^ is different for the RH and LH sides.
The spark plug wire:
^ carries high voltage pulses from the ignition coil to the spark plugs.
