Front Subframe: Service and Repair
SUBFRAME - FRONTSpecial Service Tool(s):
Special Service Tool(s)
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the upper radiator shield.
3. Remove the cowl vent top panel.
4. NOTE: For 3.0L only.
Install the special tool.
5. NOTE: For 3.8L only.
Install the special tool.
6. NOTE: 3.8L shown, 3.0L similar.
Install the special tool.
7. Remove the front wheels.
8. Raise and support the vehicle.
9. Remove the nut.
10. Disconnect the HO2S connector.
11. Disconnect the H02S connector.
12. Remove the exhaust bolts.
13. Remove the exhaust bolts.
14. Disconnect the sensor.
15. Disconnect the HO2S sensor.
16. Remove the exhaust bracket and converter assembly.
17. Remove the dual Y-converter.
18. Remove the cotter pin and nut from the tie rod ends.
19. Disconnect the tie rod ends from the front steering knuckles.
20. Remove the ball joint nut and bolt.
21. Remove the sway bar nut.
22. NOTE: Position the boot aside to gain access to the pinch bolt.
Remove the steering column pinch bolt.
23. Remove the nut.
24. Remove the bolts.
25. Remove the nut.
26. Position a suitable lift under the vehicle and raise it to the subframe.
27. NOTE: Using a suitable lift, slightly lower the subframe to gain access to the power steering lines.
Disconnect the power steering lines.
28. Remove the front subframe to body bolts.
29. Install the special tool.
30. Lower the subframe.
Installation
1. Remove the special tool.
2. Using a suitable lift, raise and support the front subframe into place.
3. Connect the power steering lines.
4. Install the front subframe to body bolts.
5. Install the nut.
6. Install the nut.
7. Install the nut.
8. Install the bolts.
9. Install the ball joint nut and bolt.
10. Install the sway bar nut.
11. NOTE: Position the boot to gain access for the pinch bolt installation.
Install the steering column pinch bolt.
12. Install the dual Y-converter.
13. Install the exhaust bracket and converter assembly.
14. Install the exhaust nuts.
15. Install the exhaust nuts.
16. Connect the sensor.
17. Connect the HO2S sensor.
18. Connect the HO2S connector.
19. Connect the HO2S connector.
20. Connect the tie rod ends to the front steering knuckle.
21. Install the cotter pin and nut into the tie rod ends.
22. Lower the vehicle.
23. NOTE: 3.8L shown, 3.0L similar.
Remove the special tool.
24. NOTE: 3.8L only.
Remove the special tool.
25. NOTE: 3.0L only.
Remove the special tool.
26. Install the cowl vent top panel.
27. Install the front wheels.
28. Install the battery ground cable.
29. Connect the battery ground cable.
